FROM DIY IDEA TO KEYCHRON PRODUCT
FROM DIY PROJECT TO NAPE PRO
THE ORIGINAL IDEA
The Nape Pro started as a maker's own project in Japan — a personal build, not a company brief. Someone wanted a keyboard that fit the way they actually worked, and built it themselves to find out whether the idea held up. What began as a one-off experiment is the version of the Nape Pro you can buy today.
DEVELOPMENT
The DIY idea was refined over a development period into something that could be made properly and repeatedly. Each round of work moved it further from a single handmade unit and closer to a finished product with consistent parts and a consistent feel. By the end of that path, the concept was ready to be built at scale rather than one at a time.
THE GIZMODO JAPAN COLLABORATION
Gizmodo Japan picked up the project and worked on it with the original maker, which is what turned a personal build into a Keychron product. That collaboration is the step where the idea stopped being one person's project and became something a wider audience could actually get hold of. Everything after it follows from that partnership.
THE KEYCHRON PRODUCT
The result is the Nape Pro as it ships today — the same idea that started as a DIY project, now made and supported by Keychron. Nothing about the origin was smoothed over to get it here; the path from a maker's own build to a production keyboard is the point. What you're looking at is where that path ended up.

KEYBOARD-FIRST CONTROL
WHY MOVE AWAY FROM THE KEYBOARD?
Pointing, scrolling, clicking and shortcuts all happen from where your hands already are, so the hand travels less between keyboard and mouse. The Nape Pro keeps every one of those actions within reach of the typing position.
Cursor movement, scroll, click and shortcut stay close to the keys instead of pulling you across the desk. You keep your place in the flow and pick up the next action without resetting your hands.

CONTROL THAT STAYS WITHIN REACH
Captions are shown as live text beneath the frame — never burned into the video file.

CUSTOM CONTROL
TRACKBALL, BUTTONS AND DIAL
Every input on the Nape Pro is yours to set up — the ball, the buttons, the dial and the click feel — and every change saves straight to the device.
POINT WITHOUT MOVING YOUR WRIST
The 25mm trackball rolls under your thumb, so the cursor travels while your arm stays put.
PUT SIX SHORTCUTS UNDER YOUR FINGERS
Assign all six buttons to the commands you reach for most and skip the trips back to the keyboard.
ADJUST THE FEEL AS YOU WORK
Turn the control dial to fine-tune the setting you use most without leaving the app you are in.
CLICK WITHOUT ANNOUNCING IT
Silent clicks keep shared rooms and late-night desks quiet while you keep the same tactile response.
REMAP EVERYTHING IN ONE PLACE
Keychron Launcher runs in your browser, so you can remap keys, buttons and the dial and save the profile in seconds.
KEEP YOUR SETUP ON THE DEVICE
ZMK firmware stores your mappings on the mouse itself, so they follow you to any computer you plug into.
EIGHT WAYS TO WORK
ONE DEVICE. EIGHT POSITIONS.
The device sits wherever your desk allows — directly below the keyboard, or off to one side beside it. That call is yours, not ours: the eight-position mount rotates through every angle so you can match it to your hand and your workspace instead of rebuilding your setup around it.
- BELOW THE KEYBOARD — the classic centred position, tucked under the front edge of the keyboard.
- BESIDE THE KEYBOARD — swung out to the side when the desk in front of you is already full.
- LEFT-HANDED USE — the same eight angles mirrored for a left hand, no separate model.
- RIGHT-HANDED USE — the standard orientation, set and re-set in seconds.
- NARROW DESK — folds in tight when there is no room to spread out.
- SHARED DESK — swings between two people without unclamping anything.
- KEYBOARD TRAY — sits low enough to clear a pull-out tray above it.
- STANDING SETUP — holds its angle when the desk moves up or down.

MADE FOR MORE THAN POINTING
BUILT AROUND HOW YOU WORK
WRITERS
Keep both hands on the keys and let the words keep flowing.
DEVELOPERS
Jump between editor, terminal and browser without reaching for a mouse.
SPREADSHEET USERS
Move cell to cell and enter figures faster with a hand on the dial.
CREATIVES
Nudge, zoom and scrub your canvas without breaking your rhythm.
LEFT-HANDED USERS
Set the dial up for your left hand and work the way that feels natural.
SPLIT-KEYBOARD USERS
Place the dial between your halves and keep a compact desk clear and usable.
CAN NAPE PRO REPLACE A MOUSE?
For some workflows, yes — if you spend most of your day in text, code or spreadsheets, the dial can take over the pointing and scrolling you would otherwise do with a mouse. For others, it works best as a companion: keep your mouse for precision work and use the dial for the moves you repeat all day.
Either way, expect an adjustment period. The first few days will feel slower while your hand learns the dial, and most people settle into a mix of both that suits how they actually work.
